The sad news of Susan de Sola’s passing away in late October last year came unexpectedly for many who were unaware of her battle with lymphoma, which wasn’t public knowledge. In our rather small poetry world, Susan had been a friend and colleague to most of us. She also had a strong presence with this journal and associated press, releasing at Able Muse Press her first and only full-length collection, Frozen Charlotte, in 2019, and she was an associate editor for this journal, Able Muse, Print Edition, until her illness made it impossible for her to continue in that role. Susan was a gifted poet whose time was cut too short at only fifty-nine. She will be greatly missed.
  From all indications, the year in, year out worldwide pandemic will not be going away any time soon as the world copes rather badly with it and its ensuing variants, notwithstanding the severe restrictions of the early days of COVID-19 that are now relaxed on and off again. Thus, despite the prevalent infrastructure for a more than ever connected world, the sense of trepidation and isolation—yes, of distance—remains.
