is pleased to announce its Year 2001 Poetry contest. All poets aged sixteen or over are invited to enter work postmarked between Jan. 1 and March 15, 2001.

KIND OF

 WORK 

Unpublished  poems in any style, on any theme, no more than three pages per poem in length, single- or double-spaced. Work must be typed on white standard-sized paper, and each poem must have a title. Any number of poems will be accepted, but all must be mailed together in a single envelope.

 

 
IDENTIFI

CATION

Send two copies of each poem: one with poet's name, address, and phone number in upper right-hand corner, one without identification of the poet. Be sure to keep copies of your poems, as entries cannot be returned.

 

 
 ENTRY 

  FEE 

Each poem (not each copy, but each separate poem) must be accompanied by a $3 entry fee, payable by check made out to "NAA poetry Contest." If you enter several poems, please send a single check for the entire amount.

Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your poems, for notification of contest results.

Poems will be judged anonymously by Dr. Bruce Bennett, teacher, editor  and author of fourteen poetry collections. most recently, Navigating the Distances (Orchises Press, 1999.) 

 

 
PRI 

ZES

First Prize $200; Second Prize $150; Third Prize $100; Honorable Mentions, certificates. All winners, including Honorable Mention poets, are invited to read their own entries at the Awards Day Reading.

 

 
AWARDS DAY  

 READING

All poems awarded prizes and Honorable Mention certificates will be read, whenever possible by the authors, at the Newburyport Art Association's historic Sam Sargent Gallery, 65 Water Street, Newburyport, MA, on Sunday, May 20, 2001, at 5 p.m.; the day's events include a reception with light refreshments, a brief reading by the judge, and an opportunity to read the winners and all other entries, which will be on display at the gallery.
