Well, the Spectator certainly messed that one up, didn't they? Seventeen articles in five days is a very strange silence indeed!

It's almost as if a politically conservative magazine imagined a problem where there was none.

I've complained to the Spectator.
One question: have the 17 articles discussed free speech and the right to publish?

David, you've got to stop listening to that Tory mishegas. I read the New York Times every day, and of course they were all over the Rushdie story. The only thing worse than depending on the Spectator is to believe it, and pass it on as fact.

Only all 17 of them, which is a number that is 55 less than the amount of virgins that Hadi Matar (peace be upon him) will receive in Paradise.

It is, of course, unspeakable.

Still, it's quite exhilarating to see "free speech and the right to publish" (and potentially offend) used so beautifully, Walter. Irony upon irony. Well done.

It appears that the Spectator article which gave rise to this thread was a petulant mini-screed (link below) by "Steerpike," the magazine's gossip columnist. I'm not kidding. The magazine has a gossip columnist who is billed as "serving up the latest tittle tattle from Westminster and beyond." When that's the guy tsk-tsking about free expression and homicidal fanaticism, you know that attempted murder is being taken seriously.

Well done, Chris, for linking this. I’ve complained to them but have had no reply.
