Default Salman Rushdie

Reprehensible. And I've always greatly admired Rushdie for his decision to live in the open despite the fatwa, even if this proves to be the eventual result.

It's horrendous, Sean. Religious fanaticism at its very worst.

Let's hope he pulls through.

The sadness I feel about this is impossible to express. Other than that statement, I am without words.

It's tragic, for so many reasons. My thoughts are with Rushdie himself, his family and friends. Heartbreaking. The fact that he was speaking of sympathetic and kind action makes it worse, if anything could:

"Rushdie, 75, was at the Chautauqua Institution to speak about the importance of America’s giving asylum to exiled writers when he was attacked".(from The Guardian)

.
Reprehensible falls short. Disgraceful falls short. Deplorable falls short. I'm reminded of the dark energy in Michael Cantor's "Thrust" villanelle on metrical.

He's been taken off the ventilator which is good news. His son tweeted this.

Interesting that the New York Times has had almost nothing to say on this.

They've done pretty much daily reporting on the attack and its aftermath, accompanied by some "think piece" cultural analysis. Are you saying that they have not editorialized sufficiently against fanaticism and bloodshed?

As Chris said, they seem to have covered it pretty thoroughly -

https://www.nytimes.com/topic/person/salman-rushdie

It was on the front page (albeit, below the fold, but it had to compete with the FBI raid on Trump's castle) the day of the attack - and on inside pages thereafter. What is your point, David?

I just did a NYTimes search and found 17 stories on Rushdie in the 5 days since the attack.

I don't read the NYT, but was quoting from a Spectator article entitled "The New York Times' strange silence on Rushdie".
I can't link or copy, but if you google it shows up.
