For me, Antimacassar is a smell. The backs of the necks of the chairbound elderly. It is a variant of Meshantador.

Ann - I found your poem and it's very good indeed and absolutely needs a shout-out and link rather than just a mention, I reckon.

There's an eau-de-cologne (4711) which has the prettiest bottle but that, and Yardley 'Tweed' are probably Meshandator too, for me, in terms of smell, at least. And there's a kind of interior smell of handbags that I remember. Parma Violets & dust and old hankies. I'll stop now. I'm entering olfactory overload.

Sarah-Jane

I don’t know if it’s permitted to use the dangerous word “cute” here, Ann. I will go where some Anglo-Saxons may fear to tread, but not I today being severely Swiss 🧀 . Your poem is at a minimum cute or even great. Chalet-ho! Funny. Nice.

Default Brief change in focus from spelling difficulty

There’s a passel of voguiste expressions that I almost hate. My disgust starts with a word that’s easy to spell, which might be why it’s so common in the US these days: curate, a verb meaning to choose among options to form a grouping. (There’s no connexion with the noun found in “a curate’s egg.”) Meals are “curated,” CDs are “curated,” for all I know, gasoline octanes are now “curated.” Virtual prizes will be awarded for the most nauseating actual use of this verb in any tense.

Also, other words that are overproliferating. Try to keep the politics down to a suitable subtle subaqueous stratum, please.

Sarah-Jane and Allen, thank you. The poem was already on the Sphere in the parallel thread (Blatherskite's Lexicon) on D&A.

Yardley made the lavender; Lenthéric made the Tweed.

Meshantador was an attempt to make something beautiful out of a sad fact of life. The word hiding behind it is nonenal.
