Bi-focal
When we were young
the world was small.
A few long blocks
and that was all.
But now the world
is smaller still—
a mote in a beam
by the window sill.

Definitely not his usual style, but this one always hits me in the heart. Today, doubly so.

This is just so sad. I didn't know him very well but he was one of the people I always wished was around here more. I had some fun PMs with him. He was a cool cat, a good poet and he seemed like a lovely bloke.

Julie, Thanks for sharing that gorgeous poem of Jesse's. Upon reflection, I knew from my first exchange with him that there was more poetry and light inside of him than could ever be revealed here on Earth. Perhaps he's on his way to finding it.

I'm sorry to hear that Jesse has died. The news always seems so much worse when the person is young. I like that poem you posted very much, Julie.

This is absolutely devastating news. He was my number one supporter in Montreal. He even came to one of my readings with his newborn baby. The poetry and music events he sponsored on Bishop Street will remain in my memory as some of the best I have attended or taken part in. He was a fine poet and a warm, caring young man. When he moved out west several years ago, we lost contact for the most part, but every now and then I would hear from him. I send his friends and family my deepest condolences.
