Thanks, all!

I respect the initial impetus of Dylan's song, Mark, but it doesn't come across like that in popular mythology. My sister used to play a few Dylan songs in her youth, so it's a nod to that too.

Before anyone asks about the my new couple of lines in the fifth stanza/verse - She’s walked a path, bizarrely,/ not often trod before. - Barbie's a film director, quite well-known too. At least she's got a Wikipedia entry. Her husband, Jeremy Hall, is also a film director. Hence the acting jargon in the second stanza/verse.

Duncan

PS In the time that Barbie has been a film director in the UK only about 10% of the films that were made have had a female director. Only one woman, Jane Campion, has won the Golden Palm at Cannes.

So, which version do you prefer? The song or the poem?

.
Your reading of it is excellent and I prefer it over the song. You have a good reading voice. I've really gotten to like this — the meter and rhyme are soothing. The repetition of the last two lines is very effective and the simple possessive"Our" is the blood that gives this such warmth. There is a simplicity to the telling of this and an idyllic feel to the narrative that befits a good wedding.
There is a deceptively rich and deep vein in this that family and friends can evoke at their best. Very nice.

The song doesn't capture the soft radiance that the reading of it reveals, I'm afraid.

Poem is good. Haven't listened to either. Did like "keeping score" very much.

Allen - are you aware that your wife is stealing a line from Joe Biden, who claimed that everything Rudy Giuliani said consisted of a noun, a verb, and 9/11. Or did Joe steal the line from your wife?

Michael, she is fully aware that she borrowed the concept from Joe Biden.

Thanks, Jim and Allen!

My cousin thought the recital was rather slow and serious, so I've done a new version that is twenty seconds quicker.

This was the first version.

I felt the same as your cousin, Duncan. If anything, you could liven up the reading even more. You have a deep enough voice that I thought I’d try increasing the playback speed, but that doesn’t seem to be an option. Good to hear both song and poem.

Thanks, Carl!

This version is ten seconds quicker than the last.

Duncan

PS And my cousin is happy with it now.
