Weird - I was quoting that very movie not two weeks ago in another poem!
Endeavor to persevere indeed... Here he is now discussing all kinds of edges:

Both films speak to me, but
Little Big Man speaks to me in particular and has done since I saw it as a child. I think it was a Sherman Alexie story where a guy says "You may be Native American, but you sure aren't American Indian." If that means anything, it may mean there's no such thing as "part Native American," which has been my line for years in conversation. I thought about that last night. And then I endeavored to persevere.
It seems to me honestly that the whole planet is in tune except the human beings on it. So I see your point. But maybe that's why Chief Dan George asks the Grandfather to stop his son from going crazy, which is all too easy to have happen sometimes. And Dustin Hoffmann does indeed go crazy for a while, before his "You go down there" speech.
Which is right here:

Update: just to say, Tawahum Bige writes a powerful poem. Sorry, I was distracted. The Boomtown Rats have a song that says "Black and blue uniforms, / Police and priests," which seems a propos.
Cheers,
John
