Akhmatova Translations at The Hudson Review Website
The Hudson Review has added on their website my translations of Akhmatova's poems, one from her collection, "Rosary," accompanied by "As One Falls Ill," and "Epigram." These translations come (as Mark Jarman has noted) as closely as possible to the Russian originals, in terms of both form and content. They have been authorized by Akhmatova's agents at FTM Literary Agency in Moscow, with whom I deal directly.
It will be necessary first to purchase the Winter 2012 edition, in order to read the poems.

As a side-note, these poems also will appear in The Hudson Review anthology to be released next month, "Poets Translate Poets: A Hudson Review Anthology."
Edited by Paula Deitz, with an introduction by Mark Jarman, the anthology features the work of eighty-three poets in twenty-four languages, translated by sixty writers; it represents the best of more than five hundred translated works originally published in The Hudson Review over the last seven decades.

That's great news, Jenny. Hudson published Alan's great Fire Drake, Beowulf's battle with the Dragon, though it's too long for anthology purposes.

Thanks. Tim -- the anthology will be the poorer for Alan's absence. But then, so is the world.

Lance, Alex, Seree -- I am much obliged. Yes, Seree, it does look delicious. I can hardly believe the company. It is a tremendous honor, tremendous.

Congratulations, Jennifer! I was hoping they would take my French Canadian Romantic poets translations, but it was not to be . . . .
