I can't provide any mathematical explanation of my "17 hours" comment yesterday, since about 27 hours now remain until 11:59pm Thursday, Sept. 30, PDT. If you want to throw your hat in the ring, go for it.

Julie, since you say "pm", I'm assuming that you're not using the 24-hour clock. By my calculation that means that we Brits have until just before 8am on Friday.
Am I right?

Pacific Daylight Time is Universal Time Coordinated minus 7 hours. British Summer Time is Universal Time Coordinated plus 1 hour. So you're 8 hours ahead of me.
Another slight complication is that the timestamp at Eratosphere is a bit off. Right now it's 7:19 am in my time zone, but Eratosphere will timestamp this as...well, you see.
Gotcher cinquain, though!
Entries are now closed. Everyone is welcome to choose winners from the 25 entries in this thread, by 11:59 pm Oct. 3 PDT (7:59 am Oct. 4 BST).

Reason: Assorted technical difficulties, now corrected, I hope

Well, well - that means that Universal Time Coordinated is the same as Greenwich Mean Time. Who knew?
The cinquain was indeed a race against the clock, but I had one, set to PDT, counting down on my computer and it was worth it to make Seree laugh.
And there've been a lot of laughs in this unexpected event. Bless you for setting it up and doing all the gruntwork. Much appreciated.

Agreed! Thank you so much - from my perspective, as someone who has frequently done these things, organising and facilitation is much, much harder - and more boring - than participation and also lacks a shiny consequence, and your generosity is appreciated. Particularly, for me, on sharing how translation works and the process (the crib!) THANK YOU!
If you ever want an image, for whatever (gratis) - a charity thing or just whatever - that's my offering in return for the completely lovely experience of playing with words in the last few days, and just PM me if that might be helpful at any point.
Oooh, and my bets are on Ann to win the funny/alt one, and I think Roger, possibly on the 'true' one. Do I have odds?

The pleasure was mine, Ann and Sarah-Jane. Who knew there were so many ways to skin the same cat?
