Default No Mercy Theocracy

All kneel, for before us we see, a shining nation on a hill, Theocracy! Led by Christofascist Roman Catholics!

The Supreme Court ruled that states are required to fund private religious schools, that limits on guns in public were unconstitutional, that police cannot be sued for failing to administer Miranda warnings, and that a death row inmate could choose to be executed by firing squad rather than by lethal injection.

From Harper's Weekly Review online

This week's review:

In the same week that it ended the 50-year constitutional right to abortion, the Supreme Court issued its first restriction on federal agency regulations in over 75 years, ruling that bodies like the EPA cannot adopt rules that are, per Chief Justice John Roberts’s decision, “transformational” to the economy without a congressional mandate. In his dissenting opinion to the court’s refusal to hear a religious-liberty challenge to New York’s vaccine mandate, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that COVID-19 vaccines were “developed using cell lines derived from aborted children.” “It’s like the Dobbs decision has removed the condom,” said a spokesman for the American Society for Reproductive Medicine of proposed laws that would grant embryos and fetuses the legal status of living persons.

What’s cool is that taxpayers are required to fund private religious schools who in turn pay not a penny in taxes. How sweet is that?

Cheers,
John

I believe the GOP is planning to change to the acronym TOA (Taliban Of America). Naturally, Supreme Court Justices will henceforth be known as Ayatollahs.

So I could choose a firing squad for myself (and I might) --
but taking a morning-after pill would be murder?

You make a good point, Gail.
In the well-known GOP saying, life ends at birth.

Cheers,
John

Gail and John and Brian

It's just this kind of juxtaposition that the editors achieve line after line in the online weekly review and in the print magazine. Irony is not dead in that neighborhood!
