Hi Richard,
For the tarp, see my answer to Matt's question, below.

As for her character, it seems to me that characters in ballads tend to be very two-dimensional, and I am trying to stay in that ballad world as much as possible. I'll consider your suggestion, though.

Thanks.

Hi Barbara.

For the tarp, see my answer to Matt's question, below.

Thanks, but it's not helping. Now I'm wondering if he any bedding on his boat at all if all he can grab is a tarp. No sheet? No blanket? Seems odd. Also, I hadn't been imagining a boat so small it could only "sleep" one. (Though I did assume that the husband's 'yacht' was short for super-yacht.)

As for her character, it seems to me that characters in ballads tend to be very two-dimensional, and I am trying to stay in that ballad world as much as possible.

Fair enough. So does 'update' refer only to the language used to tell the tale?

I’ll give even more—when you return.”
Isn't this a bit tricky, in a modern context? Seems to suggest he actually has feelings for her, otherwise wouldn't he be calling for his lawyers? No threats?

RG.
