It's as tasteful a protest as I've seen, as you would expect with Oxford undergrads.

Tax avoidance, though: it just means paying no more tax than the law requires. What's wrong with that? There's no morality in tax law, and anyway governments can change the law if they don't like the results.

Tax evasion--failing to pay the taxes required by law--is another matter. It's fraud and is punishable as a criminal offence.

Regards,

David

David, in the US it's not that simple, since the very rich can now give unlimited funds to politicians to help them get elected, so the politicians who might otherwise change the law are beholden to the very people who don't want the law changed. To give an example, David Adelson has promised to spend over $100 million to elect politicians who just so happen to favor a tax law change that would save him $2 billion in the first year alone, and ultimately at least $8 billion in inheritance taxes when he dies.

But the point of the protest, I think, was to draw attention to the issue while making fun of the rich folks who spend their time in gatherings to discuss how to lower their tax bills.

Roger, don't you mean Sheldon Adelson?

http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Governm...Adelson-Greedy

PS. Just want to add I do not share the conclusions that this pundit draws. Axelrod has good reason for calling Adelson greedy. It is a disgusting option that has been opened up.

Thanks Ann for posting.

FWIW, my granddaughter, who is majoring in journalism, informs me that her class is assigned to find examples of truth distortion in the presidential election debate.

It isn't hard.

Roger,

I thought the same. Then, for some reason, he decided to start talking today, and gave the real reason he's been bankrolling a certain candidate:

One just can't make this stuff up!

Thanks,

Unless one is a poor, persecuted freedom fighter for the 1%:

Adelson said a second Obama term would bring government 'vilification of people that were against him.' He thinks he would be at the top of that list and contends that he already has been targeted for his political activity.
I mean, bull#@€ like this don't come for free!
