Default Verses to the Editor (New York Times)

This submissions call might interest topical satire enthusiasts. (The Times solicited similar “variations” in 2019 and 2023, so you can look up the sort of lyrical commentary they go for.)

Once again we invite readers to have a little fun by expressing their opinions in forms other than conventional letters to the editor. Take a popular song, poem or other kind of text (from Shakespeare to Seuss), and rewrite the words in response to something or someone in the news — or write a song or poem from scratch.
Please send in your submissions by Sunday, Sept. 29. Include your name, city and phone number, and put “variations” in the subject line. We will publish a selection of our favorites.
