Rodmarton
In February 2014, Family Teague visited Rodmarton Gardens, 6 miles west of Cirencester in Gloucestershire, in celebration of Word-Bird's birthday. We'd heard that the snowdrops were rather spectacular; and so they were. But the entire garden was pretty amazing too. Perhaps I'll post just one photo at a time, starting with this gateway between sections of the garden. Snowdrops to follow!

Having negotiated the gateway, the party made towards the main house; and here, we came across some snowdrops... :>)

Fliss - the gateway is lovely - the colours are beautiful. As you know, I know very little about photography, so I can't comment with any kind of intelligent critique - but the colours are beautiful.
(also apologies for brevity and not being around much - I've been floored by a horrible summer flu/cold and simultaneously commissioned for 10 (!) images, so it's a bit frantic). Actually, your door image was the perfect antidote to frantic. Long-drawn out time, beckoning, slightly decrepit sense of antique wonder. Just the thing. A bit 'Secret Garden'. Sarah-Jane |
Thanks, Sarah-Jane; I love the gateway and the colours too :-)
No need to apologise; I'm sorry about your summer flu/cold and I hope you're able to power through to manage all those commissions. W.-B. and I wish you well :>) Yes, there is something about that image. There was certainly something secretive about the garden. At least at the time we visited, Rodmarton wasn't a National Trust property and its owners had rather let the decrepitude take root. That theme will come up in further photos. Please just pop in when you can; we'll keep posting and we'll complete with a poem, which we set to a little tune :>) Best wishes, Fliss & W.-B. :>x |
The party continued their wanderings, coming across, first, this match-ready tennis court,

A study in angles,

And now, for Word-Bird's Friday Favourite. Some very pretty piping here, on the house :>)

Rodmarton; or, The Flowers of Coo
The sky is a blanket of ivory white, 0the wind sighs through shuddering trees, a bird-scarer shoots and a pheasant takes flight, 0his call is a shivery wheeze; the walled kitchen garden yields nothing for stew – 0yet hark! from the orchards a rhyme: Woo-hoo! … Woo-hoo! … The flowers of Coo 0sing sweetly of coming springtime! The swimming pool's stagnant and still in its net, 0its surface a-slick with dead leaves, once crisp fiery parchments loll dull brown and wet, 0no bathers lounge under beech eaves; the moss-stricken tennis court feels no sports shoe – 0yet hark! from the hedgerows a rhyme: Woo-hoo! … Woo-hoo! … The flowers of Coo 0sing sweetly of coming springtime! The manor stands grasped by wisteria bones 0and watching its tatty yew flocks; they trail weird appendages over cracked stones, 0wings draped in capacious new smocks; the greenhouses shelter no beautiful hue – 0yet hark! from the borders a rhyme: Woo-hoo! … Woo-hoo! … The flowers of Coo 0sing sweetly of coming springtime! https://i.imgur.com/oJyGegV.jpeg Credits Photography: A.R.T. & F.F.T.
