OpEd on Baudelaire Bicentennial
I have an OpEd up on Baudelaire, COVID and National Poetry Month:

Thanks for posting this. Baudelaire is strangely comforting in bad times.

Bill, I agree.
It's weird because I never thought I'd be re-reading Baudelaire (I don't have Aaron's translation - I wish I could buy it). For me, it can't be boredom as I've worked solidly through lockdown, but maybe mortality and imagination? I've been fixated on expansive romantic paintings, too - Cole and Friedrich and Palmer. . I'd have found those deeply cringy even a few years ago. And grottoes. Either way, it's a lovely accessible article - I like that it doesn't dress up the reading of Baudelaire in overly poetic sentiments, but opens out the writing (also through the translation) as something useful to think about in these fragile times. Kudos. Sarah-Jane |
I enjoyed your OpEd, Aaron. Thanks!
