I just posted a YouTube slideshow for "17 Years," a new ned's demos song & my way of saying farewell to Maryland's Brood X cicadas & hello to summer.

The song starts in '87 when I lived near Wyman Park in B'more, feeling creeped out by the Confederate monuments unheard of in my native Long Island, then on to 2004, 2021 & ... the Future?

The strumming and lead vocal tracks were recorded in partnership with real live Brood Xers contributing background vocals.

If you enjoy Magnetic Fields, Guided by Voices, or other lo-fi alt-rock or folk, maybe you'll like it.

Hey, this is lovely! Great to be introduced to new music on a Friday.

Love the bricolage of cicada representations - my favourites the kaleidoscopic cicadas, the diorama, the clock collages and the giant cat! Space cicada at the end beautiful - a kind of sci-fi alt-narrative where they are less overlooked, maybe. I also like the slow time sense of it all.

I think of the slideshow as a way to make it easier for folks to discover the song & to add a running visual commentary to keep things interesting.

But I really love some of the images I found & tried to give credit whenever I could identify the creator responsible.

I hope to have the EP done sometime in the fall. We'll see!
