Translations should be drawn directly from the original text, and translators are expected to have a good working knowledge of the original language. Failing that, they should have access to advice from a native speaker or someone with considerable expertise in the language.
Adaptations closely based on or “after” work in other languages are also welcome, since this is a distinguished genre in its own right. Adaptations should be identified as such in the title of the thread.
Work which is only loosely connected to an original text should be posted at one of the other boards – Metrical Poetry, Deep End, Non-Metrical Poetry, or Fiction as appropriate. A post which in the Moderator’s opinion does not have a close enough relation to an original will be moved without prior notice.
For both translations and adaptations, the original text and a literal translation should be included with the post wherever possible.
It is permissible to post new work at Translation and another board in the same 7-day period, but this depends on the volume of activity at Translation and will be kept under review.
