Catherine Chandler Wins Nemerov
Congratulations, Catherine! You can add this to your string of 14 by 14 appearances.
The winning poem was Coming to Terms
Notices to the winner and finalists went out late last night, and Bill Baer confirmed to me that everyone has been informed (word reached Catherine in Uruguay!), and it was okay to release the news. He also provided me with a complete list of Finalists - several Spherians included, and I can be the first to congratulate everybody.
“Coming to Terms” – Catherine Chandler
“Sketch on the Sand” – Laura Bylenok
“The Unidentified Civilian Speaks” – Michael Cantor
“Coleridge Tries to Meter Christabel” – Carol Frith
“Façade” – David Galef
“Ghost Story” – Juliana Gray
“Fruit Flies” – A.M. Juster
“Early Rehearsal” – Jean L. Kreiling
“Lincoln’s Last Photograph” – Mike Menard
“Chapel of the Cross” – Wilmer Mills
“Conductivity” – David Rosenthal
“Spartacus” – David Stephenson

Cathy, I am so happy for you to get this much-deserved prize.
And big hurrahs to all the other Eratopherians who are cream floating to the top. Some of you have already won, some of you have already nearly won, all of you are wonderful poets and I'm so proud to know you.
And that my hometown honors you.

Congratulations Cathy! It is hard to feel bad about losing to someone to clearly in the sonnet zone.
Congrats also to Jean and the Michaels. The Sphere's domination of the Nemerov continues.

I'm starting to think that maybe Catherine has a knack for sonnets.
I can honestly say that this news doesn't surprise me. When people were wondering about the Nemerov recently in a different thread, I had a premonition it would be Catherine.
Warm congratulations to all five Erato finalists.
(By the way, does this mean that Measure is still in business even though they don't seem to have published an issue since 2009?)
PS-- I called up Measure on the phone (believe it or not) and learned that it is indeed still very much in business. Their next issue is a 2010 double issue and should be out in three or four weeks.
